...an introduction
For thousands of years in western and eastern mythology, spirits, ghosts, giants, witches, devils, trolls and vampires -to name but a few - had gone to endless trouble to rattle humans and fill them with dreams, fear and imagination.
They rattled their bones, gnashed
their teeth and clanked their chains.
They hurled huge boulders
down valleys and broke open mountains to let fire flow over the land.
They drove storms over the
seas and locusts over the fields.
They threw bowls, cups and
plates off tables, made all the bells ring at night and shrieked and howled
as though they were being roasted alive.
But all that is finished, well and truly finished ??? !
Now there are films and television,
missiles and bombs, now people get frightened by thrillers and horror films,
murder and carnage more effectively than the spirits could ever manage.
And if mankind by chance meets a real ghost nowadays, they crack out laughing
and think it is an advertising gimmick for a vitamin diet, health food or
for unbreakable crockery.
The spirits, of course, find
this hurtful, offensive and deeply wounding.
It seemed as if a time of despair had arrived for the once peaceful world of children with all spirits and fairies, as if spirits nowadays have no more role to play, no work, no goal ?!
But then, at the beginning of last year, a tiny ship's kobold called “STORMY”- his eyes flashed red and green like the position lamps of a ship - stepped before the spirits assembled at Montepini and delivered a rousing speech which gave everyone renewed courage.
